The Color of Water by James McBride takes us with the shocking, eventful life of Rachel Deborah Shilsky or also known as Ruth McBride Jordan. From growing up in a unbendable Jewish household living in the South, to running away(predicate) to New York trying to make it on her own, she was continuously surround by racialism throughout her whole life. Starting in middle work, and continuing through her adult life, Ruth was constantly harassed for her religious heritage and interracial marriage.
Early in her childhood, Ruth moved to Suffolk, a small town in Virginia. It was here that she first experienced deep religious persecution by her young peers. Up to this point, her experience with racism was between the white kids and herself. Now, she was experiencing racism coming from within her own family.
