The war officially ended when the treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919 in the palace of Versailles outside the town of Versailles, France. However, fighting ceased vii months earlier when an armistice or temporary cessation of hostilities, surrounded by the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. For that reason, November 11, 1918, is generally regarded as the end of the war to end all wars. It began 1954 as a national holiday. In the year of 1938 it was mad a national holiday entirely it was called Armistice Day but was later changed to Veterans Day on June eleventh 1954 to honor all the veterans. The main reason why Veterans Day was created were to honor all the veterans who live with us and among us who served any branch of the military who helped serve and protect our country.
